The Smithsonian Latino Center, in partnership with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the Museo del Canal Interoceánico de Panamá,  has dedicated 2009 to “Panama at the Smithsonian,” a year-long programming series that brings national attention to the history, land, and cultural expressions of the people of Panama.  Highlighted by the exhibition “Panamanian Passages” (October 5, 2009—May 31, 2010) about the social and natural history of the isthmus, the public program series includes history and science lectures, children’s workshops, music and dance performances,  and other activities. “Panama at the Smithsonian” will take place in Washington, D.C.,  New York City, and Panama City.
