About the Literacy Program Series

Creating avenues for children to develop their own agency through reading transforms literacy from a cornerstone of education to the key for change-making and life-long learning. It fosters opportunities for intergenerational dialogue and discussion on family history and cultural legacies and traditions.

The museum aims to build a book collection in the Learning Lounge with correlative programming. Here you'll find published works for early childhood, elementary and middle school levels, and youth novels developed in collaboration with Smithsonian Enterprises and national publishing houses.
