Virginia “Ginny” Gomez is deputy director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino. In her role, Gomez works with the museum’s founding director to oversee and coordinate the overall planning, direction, staffing and management of the museum's programs and operations. She also leads day-to-day management of finance and operations, external affairs, content and interpretation, and audience engagement. 

Gomez began her journey with the Smithsonian in 2012 when she joined the Office of the General Counsel as an attorney and served most recently as chief of staff to the Institution’s Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer.  

Prior to her tenure with the Smithsonian, Gomez worked as an attorney in private-practice international law and government contracting. She holds degrees from the Pepperdine University School of Law and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in International Studies and Spanish.
